Who can compete

WNA competitions are open to athletes who were born female.

WNA operates independently and is not affiliated with any other ninja league: a division in another league does not affect an athlete's WNA division.

Qualifiers: two courses

The run order is randomized in NinjaWorks and stays the same on both courses.

Speed Course

One timed run. Ranked by the furthest obstacle completed, then the fastest time. After a fail, no more points, but the athlete may keep going until time runs out.

Tech Course

Up to three attempts per obstacle, with the clock paused during resets; retries don't count against you. After three fails on one obstacle, no more points. Ranked by furthest obstacle, then time.

Scoring

Places on both courses are added up, and the lowest total wins (1st on Speed + 3rd on Tech = 4 points). Ties go to the better Tech Course place.

Qualifying for Finals

  • Season 2: five qualifiers, one special qualifier (Barbados Ninja Throwdown 2026) and the Championship Finals
  • The top three in each division at each qualifier earn a Finals spot
  • The top female in each division at Barbados Ninja Throwdown 2026 earns a Finals spot
  • Already qualified? The spot rolls down to the next eligible athlete, until every spot is filled
  • WNA may cap or adjust Finals field sizes to keep the event on schedule

Finals: three courses

Speed and Tech

Every qualified athlete runs the Speed and Tech Courses, in the same format as the qualifiers.

Endurance Course

The top eight in each division after Speed and Tech go on. One attempt per obstacle, with an extended time limit for rest and strategy; a fail ends the run.

Finals scoring

Places on all three courses are added up and the lowest total wins (1st + 2nd + 3rd = 6). Ties go to the better Endurance Course place.

Courses built for female athletes

Host gyms design their WNA courses together with WNA, and every design is approved by WNA Course Director Jennifer Sanders. Courses should:

  • Emphasize technical skill, control and efficiency
  • Use diverse grip types and movement patterns
  • Avoid relying on maximum reach or span
  • Challenge experienced athletes and stay approachable for newer ones

Judging, safety and conduct

  • Judges have final authority on every completion and fail; the Course Director is the lead judge at every event
  • Every athlete needs a signed waiver with the host gym before competing
  • Sportsmanship and respect toward competitors, staff and spectators are expected; unsportsmanlike conduct can mean penalties or disqualification
  • The Code of Conduct covers athletes, coaches, parents and spectators, in person and online
